The master owner is the user who initially added the individual to the family tree web site. Only the master owner can delete the individual and can assign ownership to other users. An example would be a parent who adds their spouse, children, grandchildren, etc. That user becomes the master owner of all those individuals and as such could extend ownership to all the individuals they added. That why those individuals could manage their own information, photos, videos, etc.
To ease this chore, check the Also give ownership to... and all the master owners spouses, children, etc. will be given ownership of the individuals they added.
